MY STORY

Welcome! I'm María. More than 10 years ago, I discovered how to create pieces that move, connect, and enchant me. And this is my story…

how

I grew up in Paysandú, Uruguay. My childhood was defined by nature: admiring its wildflowers, planting and harvesting my own food, kilometers of infinite grass, long afternoons on horseback that ended with a swim in the lagoon at sunset, learning about the science of the earth. I learned—as a family—about my particular weakness and sensitivity for all the wonders that inhabit and define living in the countryside.

My childhood was colored by the countryside and my grandmother's house in Montevideo, built by my great-grandparents, where all the generations of my large family lived together. I grew up there surrounded by the values that sustain my creations today. As a teenager, I used to dress in garments and accessories that belonged to my mother, my aunts, my grandmother, or even some things from my great-grandmother. During my adventures, I would find them and could spend entire afternoons discovering treasures in the basement of "mamama's" house.

I was surrounded by moments to treasure. To this day, I keep the box of colored pencils I was given as a child, and every time I open it, its scent connects me to my first drawings. Drawing was and is one of my passions. My first impulse.

When I turned 18, I decided to move to Montevideo to study. I trained in Industrial Design; the degree allowed me to get to know the different paths that design offers, and during that journey, I obtained a scholarship in northern Italy where I learned to work manually with various metals and stones: the magic and the craft of the jeweler.

As soon as I set foot back in my native country, I began to create my first pieces in workshops that friends lent me. Until—little by little—I was able to acquire my own tools and set up my own workshop, a space that reflects me and connects everything I love.

One day, a soul sister told me that a small antique plate from her grandmother's house had broken. I recognized myself in her nostalgia and the pain that occurs when a piece of your life's history breaks. Something extraordinary happened: while she was picking up the broken pieces, she found a little shard of porcelain that she fell in love with. She kept it, and during one of our meetings, she brought it to me and said:

-Would you make me a ring with it?

That was the beginning of a world of unique and timeless jewelry that connects with the past and gives new life to a memory with familial, authentic, and essential meaning.

I value noble materials and choose them whenever I can; my consumption was also inherited as slow and conscious; responsible. For me, what is inherited is a way to continue being part of a story. To write it and live it in other times, to make it unforgettable and essential. Every antique object captivates me. Every story that is intertwined and told from generation to generation through objects. That was my lesson on the true value of what we choose to surround ourselves with.

I invite you to discover and accompany my work of treasuring.
