The plate I brought in to be transformed belonged to the dinnerware set my grandparents received as a wedding gift. They served as parents to me. One of the little medallions they made was for my granddaughter. I wanted them to be present in some way for Margo's first birthday. It’s incredible to think that part of that wedding gift is reaching the fifth generation! Thank you so much for the wonderful work you did!

The cups and plates are part of a tea set my mother-in-law received when she was in Ireland. When she passed away, my husband (her son) and I inherited the tea set, with the clarification that the teapot was cracked and could not be used. I have never used the set, and it has been stored in boxes and moved many times. My friend Maggie told me about you when she had her jewelry made. My niece is getting married this May, and I thought this would be an excellent way to incorporate her grandmother (my mother-in-law) into the event. The additional pieces are for other family members who had a special connection with my mother-in-law. And this is a wonderful way to make use of the pieces instead of having them stored in a box somewhere.

In 2005, when I moved out to live on my own, Mom gave me a dinnerware set that had been gifted to her in '78, when she married my old man, and which she had kept intact for almost 30 years. More than the gift itself, it was that afternoon of laughter opening the boxes, her telling me stories. My new house didn't have a sofa, but it did have a full set of porcelain with a million pieces, decorated with passion flowers, which I love. I used it to death, every single day for years. Some pieces fell by the wayside, as happens with everything that is enjoyed and used over and over again. Mom passed away in 2014, and a few days later, a plate broke on me. I cried buckets. It felt as if I had been broken in two.

My father worked overtime as a mechanic on ships. One day, he invested a month's wages in a set of English china that was sold to him on one of those ships; the most beautiful and delicate set, with pastel-toned flowers and gold trim. My father was never one to show his emotions, but that gift was, without a doubt, an act and a demonstration of love... and that is how it was regarded in my family. Each piece was highly valuable, not only because of the delicacy of its design, but also because of the hours of effort invested in that gift and the significance of that gesture.

When I was six years old, I discovered a beautiful set of dishes in my grandmother's antique sideboard. It consisted of about 45 or 50 pieces, ranging from tiny cups with their respective saucers to a soup tureen and even a butter dish. They were always kept for special occasions, such as her birthday or family gatherings. Every day, when I returned from school, my grandmother would make me oatmeal with milk and serve it in one of the smallest cups, as if it were a doll's tea party. As I grew older, the size of the cup increased with me. Those cups held not only my oatmeal, but also the love and dedication with which she cared for me.
